The seven articles in issue 1/2024 of the Rivista geografica italiana can be divided into four thematic groupings.
Ettore Asoni and Marco Nocente’ articles contribute to the field of legal geography. The first refers to this new field of geography, while the second investigates how jail space is transformed through the use of videoconferencing in trials.
Viviana Ferrario’s article proposes for new or revitalised directions in geography research regarding agricultural space as heritage.
Dragan Umek and Claudio Minca’s article, as well as Raffella Coletti’s, address two prominent cases of today’s migrations from different perspectives: the “Balkan route” between Belgrade and Trieste (this article will be followed by another, which will be published in issue 2/2024), and the border of Ventimiglia, in relation to Italian-French movements.
Finally, Simone Gamba’s article, as well as that of Francesco Formigari and Lucia Masotti, address cultural geography. The first explores the French photo-cinematographic archive of the Archives de la Planète in light of current visual geography directions; the second considers David Seamon’s “humanistic geography” and its enduring significance.
The issue also has two items in the “Opinion” section. Andrea Pase’s contribution considers the many techniques of academic evaluation of scientific papers with multiple authors, whereas the second, authored by a broad collection of authors, recommends reading a recent theatrical performance as a representation of “public geography”.
Finally, six book reviews examine the most innovative recent publications, focusing primarily on urban political and social geography topics.
