This special issue of the Rivista Geografica Italiana features eight papers (plus an introduction) on the strengthening of the relationship between food and space, authored by a total of thirty-three co-authors. The nexus between food and space is a topic that has been extensively covered in international geography recently and is now the focus of a research project of national interest (PRIN) in Italy. The current issue of the journal is one of the first products of this project.
By focusing on the territorial aspect of food as a complex phenomenon, the project (and this special issue of the journal as a result) aims to deepen the various themes that are articulated around it, including food and socio-spatial justice, food and sustainability, food and identity elements, and food and local development. We hope that RGI readers will appreciate the advance of the debate, which is produced by the various articles included in this special issue.
The eight book reviews in this issue cover a large range of subjects, reviewing works of leading epistemological significance as well as those devoted to the grand themes of the environment, modern urbanism in all of its manifestations, and cultural geography.
