Issue 1/2023 of the Rivista geografica italiana is composed of articles touching upon a variety of research topics.
The first article analyzes spatial data concerning the spread of Covid-19 disease in two Italian regions (Tuscany and Molise) in 2020-2021. The conclusions may also be useful for public decision makers.
The second article questions the role that video-photographic representation (in this case, that of the city) can play in urban studies. The article suggests that images and videos are not mere research tools, but shall be conceived as critical devices that may innovate urban studies and their methodologies.
The third article focuses on the policy of replacing illegal crops in a village in Colombia, following the 2016 peace agreement between the national government and the FARC-EP guerrillas. This way, the article provides an account of the current outcomes of this policy, as well as the prospective ones.
Finally, the fourth article moves from a survey based in Sicily to explore the case of so-called boutique festivals. These are understood as an innovative form of urban tourism whose opportunities and risks are discussed in the article.
The book reviews section includes seven recently published volumes, covering gender and feminist geographies, explorations and travels, the so-called Italian “borghi” (villages), the "urban-nature" opposition, nostalgia and cultural heritage.
