This contribution intends to put forth the results of the evaluation process of a early school leaving among lower secondary school students in the north area of the north side of Milan. The focus of the work is on the pedagogical and didactic elements of effectiveness as well as critical aspects of three main areas of the intervention: a) the engagement of students and their parents; b) the relationship between the laboratorial methods and the goal of re-engaging students with learning; c) the pedagogical supervision of the intervention. In order to elaborate a multi-faceted view of the intervention, the qualitative study was designed as a participatory evaluation process that involved different subjects. Data was collected from March 2020 and October 2021 by way of semi-structured interviews and focus group with teachers, educators, coordinators, school managers, students and parents. Thematic analysis of the collected data was then conducted. Results indicate a strong coherence between the goals of the intervention and the didactic methods/methodologies adopted. They reveal the need for more engagement on the part of the students' parents, the need for a more significant role for students in the decision-making process and the need for the pedagogical supervision of teams of teachers and educators.
