Abstract

The essay analyses hackerare m0n0p0l1, a project that resulted in the creation of an expansion pack for Monopoly. This expansion pack modifies some elements of the classic board game to transform it into an educational game about the housing crisis and urban transformations. After introducing serious games and their uses in geography, the article examines various aspects of hackerare m0n0p0l1, including the origins of the idea, its connection with the history of Monopoly, and the project’s educational and social aims. It also explores the various ‘hacking’ operations that modify the ‘software’ and ‘hardware’ of Monopoly, together with the artistic and ethical guidelines of the project.
