Il contributo esplora l’educazione come sistema complesso sul piano sia epistemico sia sistemico e approfondisce le implicazioni teoriche e metodologiche per la ricerca educativa. Introduce il concetto di sistemi simplex come strutture semplificanti utilizzate dalle comunità agenti – ricercatori, insegnanti, decisori politici – per agire entro la complessità educativa. In tale prospettiva, il testo presenta le tensioni intra- e intercomunitarie che emergono nei processi di innovazione, valutazione e trasferimento della ricerca. Particolare attenzione è dedicata alle differenze tra modelli di causalità, ai limiti della variabilità interindividuale come fonte prevalente di evidenze e alle difficoltà di comunicazione tra comunità di soggetti agenti. In chiusura, propone una riflessione sulla responsabilità epistemologica della ricerca nel costruire strumenti condivisibili, individuando in ciò l’eredità metodologica di Raymond Buyse.
