Active participation in an addiction treatment program requires complex choices and adequate cognitive abilities, to patients.
The research was carried out on a sample of subjects addicted to illegal psychoactive substances and/or alcohol detained in a prison.
They were given the ENB 2 neuropsychological test, useful for assessing executive functions. While some biases that prevent general conclusions from being drawn are observed, a significant impairment of cognitive abilities can be detected in half of the sample.
This characteristic must be considered in the assessment of compliance with the treatment of the pathology.
The results indicate the need to extend the research to other contexts of observation, such as outpatient clinics and communities, and to evaluate the introduction of cognitive rehabilitation into care programs.
