Abstract

This paper focuses on San Carlo Hospital in Potenza, the leading healthcare facility in the Basilicata Region, highlighting its commitment to clinical research and trials during the 2022-2024 period. The institution stands out for its interdisciplinary collaboration, its attention to vulnerable patients through compassionate use programs (EAP), and its participation in national and international studies, mainly sponsored by non profit organizations. However, the lack of a centralized Trial Office and dedicated infrastructure limits the efficiency and visibility of its research activities, which are still largely based on individual initiatives. The General Management aims to strengthen the organization by establishing dedicated structures, integrating research into the institution’s mission, and developing a regional oncology network to improve access to therapies and
patient recruitment. This transformation requires a cultural and managerial shift to consolidate the Hospital’s role within the national scientific landscape.
