The NHS is probably experiencing one of the most critical periods since its inception.
A variety of factors contribute to the current situation: from chronic underfunding to the consequences of the Covid pandemic, from staff shortages to difficulties in recruitment and management. Added to all this is the recent phenomenon of professionals abandoning the NHS for private healthcare or freelance activities. This last aspect aggravates the shortage of operators that has affected the NHS in recent years, not only because of the difficulties in finding them on the market, due in large part to a lack of planning and a university training policy that has been short-sighted in recent decades, but also to a progressive loss of attractiveness of healthcare professions.
Research carried out by FIASO has shown that the rates of unfitness and limitations to work, and of absences, reach significant percentages, with significant consequences on company operations.
