Abstract

The article illustrates an experience carried out in Rome, in the field of equal opportunities and against gender violence. At one of the Anti-Violence Centres created by the Municipality of Rome Capital, the author, as a consultant psychologist and psychotherapist, carried out individual and group activities aimed at processing trauma and transforming experiences using targeted techniques. The text describes a path of awareness and growth through the utilization, during the cycles of meetings, of some metaphors and symbols that facilitate the processes of narrating the self. The use of reading passages, poetic images and figurative arts during group sessions allowed the short-term treatment and positive resolution of PTSD in people who voluntarily chose to participate in the self-empowerment process proposed by CAV, managing thus to translate their experiences of discomfort into a language that can be communicated to others and to modulate their anger without feeling shame and/or guilt sense.
