
The article analyzes the experience of ASST Spedali Civili di Brescia in developing and consolidating clinical trial-related processes. Through the establishment of a Clinical Trial Center, the organization has strengthened the governance of clinical research and optimized trial operations. The model, based on cross-functionality and integration among internal departments, was developed following a SWOT analysis and enabled the activation of over 3,100 clinical studies (2016-2024), including 51 Phase I trials. With the support of the Grant Office, the organization managed over €31 million in research funding.
The resulting benefits are manifold: access to innovative therapies, professional development of staff, cost savings for the National Health Service (SSN), and the consolidation of the organization’s scientific role at both national and international levels. The model stands as an example of sustainable investment in health, research, and innovation.
