
The phenomenon of healthcare mobility is represented by the process of migration of individuals in need of care who choose to utilize healthcare services in facilities located outside the territorial area of competence of their home healthcare company, even when the same medical treatment is available in their own area of residence. The article, after examining the defining and classifying aspects of the phenomenon, the economic regulation of financial flows between regions, and the descriptive statistics of the phenomenon in Italy, tests the research hypothesis that
regions implement strategic behaviours aimed at increasing levels of active healthcare mobility.
