Managing the administrative personnel in the Italian NHS is a critical challenge that is often overlooked. But in a context of imminent retirements and technological revolutions, there is a pressing need to attract younger, qualified and digitally competent staff, redefining the staff towards more efficient and innovative profiles. This study offers the first analysis of administrative staff in the context of the NHS in order to support personnel planning. The contribution proposes benchmarking metrics at an inter-organizational and inter-unit level, showing a possible application in one hospital.
