Energy efficiency strategies represent an opportunity to reduce costs while contributing to the protection of the environment in which citizens live. This article presents the case of the Azienda Socio Sanitaria Territoriale (ASST) of Lodi which has started an energy consumption analysis and efficiency improvement process for one of its hospitals. This process takes advantage of the “Conto termico della PA” incentive from the Gestore Servizi Energetici and the regional support of the Lombardy Region’s “New Energy for Welfare” program.
This case highlights the importance of the role of the energy manager, of a structured management system, of the consumption analysis phase, and of a system of incentives to support the capital investments needed by public health authorities to reduce the energy consumption of their, often massive, building stock.
