Abstract

Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda-Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico is a regional and national reference for clinical, research and training activities. It is a center of excellence for various care activities, such as emergency/urgency for adults and children, transplantation, maternal and childcare, and the care of patients with rare diseases. The Foundation is also a virtuous example of clinical risk prevention and management for the safety of patients and professionals. The clinical risk team, within the Quality Unit, is engaged in strong compliance activities through the drafting of protocols and procedures and verification of their implementation with scheduled and unscheduled audits. Clinical risk prevention interventions are not limited to compliance with regulations but include educational campaigns or activities on specific issues aimed at patients and caregivers, such as violence against healthcare professionals or patients’ falls. Both prevention and monitoring activities are characterized by a strong participatory approach involving the operating units and their quality and clinical risk heads.
The Foundation is migrating to the application of the Enterprise Risk Management system facilitated by participation in the regional clinical risk network.
