Systematic analysis of telemedicine services to support morbidity: Technologies and future perspectives
Abstract
The main aim of this research is to provide a scientific systematic literature review on the use of telemedicine for patients characterised by a particular disease state, which often makes them frail and chronic.
The literature review was conducted using the Tranfield approach (2003), which is an efficient and high-quality method to select and evaluate objectively and quantitatively the pre-screened studies.
The methodology was followed stepby-step, analysing key words, topics, journal quality and finally arriving at the selection of a few papers which will then be analysed in detail. In addition, the papers were compared with each other and classified according to significant criteria, including the technologies and methodologies used.
The systematic review found that the majority of patients involved in telemedicine programmes are willing to use this model of healthcare delivery and the clinical results seem to be encouraging. Same results suggest that telemedicine services are appreciated by patients, increase access to care, and may be an effective and efficient way to better cope with emergencies and/or pandemics, lowering overall
costs and promoting social inclusion.
