I Tipi psicologici fra tradizione, controversie e modernità

Abstract

Dall’edizione di Tipi psicologici (1921) in poi, letteratura ed epistolari hanno contribuito a chiarire come la tipologia fosse tutto fuorché il principale interesse di Carl Gustav Jung. Quest’ultimo ne riconosceva il valore in quanto apparato critico per vagliare il materiale empirico, piuttosto che tentativo di tipizzare le coscienze. È proprio la capacità euristica dei tipi a giustificarne l’odierno utilizzo in ambito psicoterapeutico e analitico. Paradossalmente, è invece la loro sistematizzazione come “caratterologia” a decretarne il successo anche al di fuori dei contesti clinici e, dagli anni ’20 in poi, l’enorme diffusione a ogni latitudine, rendendo la teoria via via più rilevante a fini valutativi, formativi e orientativi. Dal 1942 a oggi, vengono realizzati numerosi tentativi psicometrici ispirati alla tipologia junghiana, derivati, congruenti o divergenti dal Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Se la teoria va sempre più sofisticandosi dal punto di vista metodologico, essa sembra però adombrare pressoché tutte le preoccupazioni filosofiche, letterarie e culturali care a Jung, come rilevato da James Hillman in un intervento tenuto a Eranos nel 1976, Le tipologie egualitarie versus la percezione dell’unicità.
