Reforms without history. Historians' disciplinary identity and teaching professionality in the Italian school system at the beginning of the new millennium

Abstract

The reforms carried out in the last fifteen years in the Italian school system have led to contradictory results in teachers’ initial and in-service training. The changes introduced in degree classes and in subject certifications have not always been coherent. The lack of specialization in teaching has affected especially the discipline of history.
