This article analyzes some recent studies about the political life of Fiume between 1919 and 1920. The main topics discussed are the history of the city before World War I, the role played by the army in 1919-1920, the roots of new theories and political practices, the role played by Gabriele D’Annunzio in the political life of the city and his networks. These recent studies show how the debate on this topic is still alive and open to new interpretations.
