Abstract

The history of contemporary Italy needs to be understood in a global context. Traditional
themes, such as Meridionalism, can no longer be treated in a self-referential manner. The case
of Pasquale Saraceno is significant from this point of view. His cultural relations clearly show
the global nature of his thinking, which in the past historiography has insisted on reading
through a national perspective.
