This work reflects on some of the social moments that characterized psychiatric reform in Italy and the birth of local mental health services. It emphasizes the continuity between a society committed to change, motivated professionals, and psychiatric patients who needed to break out of the confines of the asylum to gain a role in society. Currently, that thread has loosened, and perhaps it is necessary, considering the radical evolution of social life, to revive the beauty and porosity of places of care and the desire of operators. Strengthening the working group and opening up to new forms of care and desire can restore hope and revive the centrality of mental health and the well-being of citizens.
