Abstract

Empathy is a complex form of psychological inference, at the root of much social perception and regulation of social interaction, and can be forged through learning.
In this work the characteristics of the construct are delineated by differentiating them from others and the components of empathy (cognitive, affective, somatic) are analyzed.
It is necessary to promote empathy, at a local and cultural level, in order to understand social realities and to counteract the forms of aggressiveness and violence favored by the individualistic culture of our time.
