Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environment (EPEE) is a biannual peer-reviewed journal specialized in the fields of energy and environmental economics and policy, as well as the economics and management of public utilities.
Since 2026, EPEE has become an open access journal, allowing all researchers, policy makers and operators to access its publications free of charge and to disseminate their work without publication fees (Article Processing Charges - APC).
This transition to Open Access aims to facilitate access to scientific research and promote wider dissemination of knowledge in the crucial field of energy and environmental transition.
EPEE regularly welcomes contributions from renowned academics, researchers, policymakers and operators in the sector, thereby achieving a true integration of multidisciplinary skills, which is one of its main strengths.
This original formula enables the development of a fruitful exchange of knowledge and experience between:
- The world of academic research;
- Economic operators;
- Political and social actors.
This exchange is fundamental in the current context, which is characterised by:
- Profound transformation of energy markets;
- Rapid changes in the regulatory and institutional framework;
- The growing importance of environmental issues, both local and global;
- The challenges of energy transition and decarbonization;
- Supply security issues.
EPEE comprises two complementary sections and sometime a Special Issue.
“Observatory” section
This section publishes contributions expressing the authors' views on current energy and environmental policy issues. It provides a space for analysis and debate on contemporary issues, allowing experts to share their perspectives on public policy, transition strategies and regulatory developments.
“Articles” section
This section features contributions of a more strictly scientific nature, including:
- Works devoted to the application of microeconomic and macroeconomic theory to energy and environmental issues;
- Surveys and analyses of the institutional aspects of public policy;
- International comparative studies;
- Quantitative and qualitative research on energy markets;
- Analyses of carbon pricing mechanisms and climate policies;
- Papers dealing with managerial economics of companies operating in the field of energy and environment, including financial, strategic and management aspects.
The Special Issue collects contributions focused on a single topic or theme of interest around which EPEE occasionally invites Authors to propose articles that are examined under the responsibility of Guest Editors which EPEE invites Authors to propose articles that are examined under the responsibility of Guest Editors.
All articles undergo rigorous peer review to ensure the scientific quality of publications.
