About the Journal

AIM AND SCOPE

The Istituto Lombardo Accademia di Scienze e Lettere is a cultural entity that has been rooted for more than 200 years in the city of Milan and nationwide. It was founded in 1797 by Napoleon Bonaparte, who, in the Constitution of the Cisalpine Republic (Art. 297), established the creation of a National Institute charged with collecting discoveries and perfecting the arts and sciences, modelled on the Institut de France. In 1810, Napoleon established the headquarters of the Royal Institute of Science, Letters and Arts in Milan in Palazzo Brera, where it continued to promote cultural meetings and scientific initiatives.

The Istituto Lombardo has continuously published its “Rendiconti” since 1864: an institutional publication of the Academy, representative of the initiatives of its two Classes. Three volumes are published each year: the “Rendiconti - General Part and Official Proceedings” describe the activities carried out at the Institute in each academic year and contain the annual report delivered by the President at the Solemn Meeting. The ‘Rendiconti - Class of Mathematical and Natural Sciences’ and the ‘Rendiconti - Class of Moral Sciences’, on the other hand, collect the scientific communications presented at the Ordinary Meetings by members and associates, as well as by external speakers invited to speak.
