Bilinguismo e abilità matematiche: il linguaggio conta?

Abstract

Le abilità di elaborazione numerica e calcolo costituiscono un aspetto importante degli apprendimenti scolastici ma sono ancora relativamente pochi gli studi che hanno indagato queste competenze negli alunni e alunne con profilo di bilinguismo esposti all’Italiano come seconda lingua.
In questo contributo, dopo una breve presentazione dei modelli teorici di riferimento, verranno illustrate le relazioni tra competenze linguistiche e numeriche considerando i principali predittori delle competenze numeriche, il lessico matematico, la relazione tra linguaggio e cognizione numerica e con un approfondimento sulla valutazione delle competenze matematiche, che possono coinvolgere processi simbolici, non simbolici e abilità di problem solving. Segue una riflessione sul ruolo delle variabili ambientali nello sviluppo delle competenze numeriche e di calcolo. Si discutono infine le implicazioni per i contesti educativi e per la clinica.
